Lymphatic drainage massage is a slow, rhythmic type of massage which stimulates the lymph to facilitate the removal of metabolic wastes, excess water, toxins, bacteria, large protein molecules, and foreign substances from tissue through one way drainage pathways within the body. In addition, it relaxes the sympathetic nervous system, reduces pain, and enhances the activity of the immune system. It is a gentler, more superficial massage treatment and one of its aims is to reduce swelling, or oedema, by increasing lymphatic drainage and applying gentle pressure to the lymph vessels. It is particularly useful as part of post-mastectomy therapy oedema and fibrosis and relieves pain and tension. It is also an effective treatment for a variety of issues including skin disorders, headache, sinus congestion, sprains and muscle aches, stress, digestive disorders, and it can be used before and after surgery to remove tissue congestion and minimize scar formation.
This is a one day accredited diploma course for existing Level 3 and above Massage Therapists. It is an insurable course that on completion, you can use with the general public and charge for. By the end of the course you will feel confident to carry out consultation including referral to other healthcare providers.

The morning will involve theory around the lymphatic system and lymphoedema and then the afternoon will be practical. Each student will receive and complete a 1 hour treatment.
1 day course 10:00am-5:00pm
Please bring a packed lunch, tea & coffee facilities will be available.
Pre-requisites, diploma in level 3 body massage, sports massage or other equivalent

As part of the course you will be provided with a detailed manual to take away with you to refer back to.
The course is accredited by Association of Physical and Natural Therapists and you will receive a Certificate of Completion for you to display and give to your insurance.
